Trump and Martin sitting in a tree.........
US President Donald Trump and Taoiseach Micheál Martin met in Washington this week, what came out of the meeting and why Martin stayed so quiet all in the first edition of our newsletter.
Good Morning and happy Sunday and welcome to the Inaugural Politics Ireland Newsletter. In this Newsletter, it is my job to go through all the big stories that made rumblings in the Political world this week and to dive deep into a specific one,
Although I will not tell you my name (that might sound suspicious personally), I don’t want my name everywhere, people attacking me, etc. The Current treatment of Journalists in today's world is hard to watch, and although I am not a journalist, I am a Political Nerd and will ALWAYS fact-check all my information and provide links to where i get my information from. So that’s my promise to you, if you want to make a promise to me, you can forward this email to your friends and make sure to tell them to sign up here:
And, if you have any feedback, send me an email to [email protected]
Same goes if you have a story you think I should talk about, or maybe you work in politics, or a politician gets in contact on that email address. And just like anyone, I take confidentiality to the utmost seriousness.
The political news this week has been mostly dominated by the Taoiseach’s visit to Washington. Why was Martin so quiet, and why it might have been a good thing that he did stay quiet, I am recapping it all, showing you a few political stories you might have missed this week. All right, enough from me
Trump and Martin sitting in tree……

(Niall Carson/PA) (PA Wire)
On Wednesday Micheal Martin and Donald Trump held a meeting in the Oval Office for our countries annual world marathon were we sned most cabinet ministers including an attorney general to all the different capitals or big cities from Chicago to Bejing or Japan, Govemernet ministers will be going everywhere for the celebrations although Martin took part in a Breafast with JD Vance earlier in the day (which saw the US VP wear some very interesting socks) The US Vice President also bagged himself an Invite to Ireland there is strong chance that Vance will be here but Trump could come to Ireland as well (he expressed interest in a vist but didnt specify a date) now weather or not the vist would be for him to just play golf in his recenty thorn up golf course which saw palestinians flags stuck on the course by protestors in Doonbeg or if it would be more similar to Joe Biden’s vist here back in 2023, If its anything like that vist and if Trump continues to go in the way he is going policy wise, It will be undoubtebly be a controversial vist. Back in the meeting which had Irish press scattered into arguably on the most important offices in the world went surprisingly smoothly or did it that's the question people have been asing, Should Micheal Martin stood up to Trump should Trump given Martin a harder time according to Fox News Trump let him off easy they claimed that Martin is very socialist" and "very left" They also said: "I tell you what though, that Prime Minister got off light. He has called what Israel is doing a genocide, he's very anti-Israel.
"He's very socialist, very left. I thought they were going to have a little bit of a clash... We saw what happened a couple of weeks ago with Zelensky."
(Side Note: Pronunciation of Michael on News channels in the US was comical)
I think the Idea that Martin is “far-left” is hilarious because it shows how different politics in America is. For most of us in Ireland, Fianna Fáil is usually looked at as the “Centre right” party, though according to the Taoiseach today, he thinks politicians go too quickly to stereotype politicians.
The meeting was dominated by a lot of things a lot of it (let's be honest) was Trump complaining about either the EU, Ireland or why people don't like him (that's a joke by the way) Something that has dominated the headlines was the chuckle or laugh that erupted in the room after Trump made a joke about Irelands housing cirisis this even made Martin laugh weather or not that was forced lets just hope it was Housing isnt not joke in Ireland certainly isnt taking into account that a astonishing 15,286 people are currently in emergency accommodation according to new figures released this January. Reactions from the opposition parties back at home were loud and clear Labour’s housing spokesperson and Limerick City TD Connor Sheean said “We know that Donald Trump likes to make news and break records, and it is shameful that the Taoiseach did not own up to his role in the greatest crisis in Ireland, the housing crisis.
"The Taoiseach’s reaction to Trump’s assessment of the housing crisis as a result of Ireland’s success is outrageous. “It goes to show what those on the hard edge of the housing crisis are up against. A Taoiseach who laughs at the crisis of our times, a minister who has disappeared and his assistant minister proposing putting our young people in sheds, rather than focusing on delivering sustainable, long term housing solutions." Sinn Féin housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin said that "joking about the housing crisis is never "a good answer".“Do the thousands of people in emergency shelters think this is funny?
“Or those trapped on Council waiting lists? Or those paying rip off rents? Or those living in their parent’ box bedroom?
“Or those forced to emigrate?”
The Taoiseach has defended himself though he said "We have to be careful not to parrot Sinn Féin on every occasion because I equally said in the press conference, very empathetically — when I was asked what was the number one issue or what would I really wish for Ireland — I said the number one issue in Ireland is housing, and we need to build as many houses as we can, as quickly as we can, for young people in Ireland to be able to afford to buy or afford to rent," Mr Martin said.
Controvesoy didnt stop there for Martin a clip from the meeting of Trump answering a Journalists questions asking who is his favourite irish person and Trump responding Connor Mc Gregor, the fighter who was convicted of rape in a Civil case in Ireland Martin again didnt say anything. Micheal lets face it is scared scared of turmo and what he coud do to Ireland, America has always been known as “The leader of the free world” and it is Trump is imposing tariffs on the EU Trump is vowing a 200 per cent tariff on Irish whiskey exports to the US which could deal a serious blow here in Ireland Trump has his finger on Irelands pulse if you disobey him just like a toddler he will throw a tantrum but sometimes you can even beat a toddler depending on how Important you are or how big of a country you are weather or not Irelnad has that power to stand up to trump and to quite the toddler well we will have to wait and see wont we?

Some other stories you might have missed
In some other stories in the world of politics this week, Enoch Burkes family tried to make a scene in Washington and I think its safe to say it failed, The Burkes showed up (uninvited) to a Irish Funds Gala Dinner were the Taoiseach was present (and had made a speech before the arrival of the family), The burkes were swiftly removed by security and later spoke to the media. The Taoiseach called the Incident “regrettable”
Micheal D’Higgins has called for Solidarity in his final ever message as president of Ireland, Micheal D Higgins said he wants to reflect on the "themes" of his time in Áras an Uachtaráin, Higgins has serverd for 2 terms of 7 years and later this year (around October or so) Speculation has already begun on who might throw there hat in the ring for president Even Senator Micheal Mc Dowell has said in last week that he might even go for it.
A Fianna Fáil TD has suffered a mugging which left him with a fractured shoulder while he was in London celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, according to him, he was walking back from a theatre to his Hotel Room when he was then knocked from behind, his phone was stolen as a result.
